Carpentry and Joinery

Aim of the course

This is an industry recognised qualification. The aim of this course is to teach students the basic skills in carpentry.

What will the course involve?

This course will be assessed by a mix of practical and theory assessment throughout the course, culminating in an online exam to test knowledge. Functional Skills will be studied as an integral part of the Diploma qualification.

Course content?

Areas of study will include the use of hand tools and power tools; health and safety and the preparation and assembly of joinery products and an introduction to the structure of the construction industry.
The course also provides input in health and safety training. This will make progression onto another construction course easier.
As 16-19 year old learners, you will attend college for three days a week (subject to change).

What qualifications do I need?

This course requires no formal qualifications, but an interest in construction is essential.
You will be asked to carry out an Initial Assessment to determine the support you require to be successful on this course.

What are my options after I finish the course?

Students can look to progress onto a Level 2 course or seek a career in the industry.
