Bricklaying

Aim of the course

This is an industry recognised qualification. This course is for those candidates wishing to progress into employment or mature students with a bricklaying bias who wish to achieve a qualification.

What will the course involve?

The course contains a mixture of theory and practical activity covering all aspects of bricklaying. Areas of study include mortar mixes; brick and block laying; setting out; power tools and equipment; site organisation and safety; scaffolding; and thin joint. Functional Skills will be studied as an integral part of the diploma qualification.

Course content?

The course has a practical bias covering all areas of the bricklaying craft and associated subjects. Assessment is based on course work and externally set examinations. Areas of study include: mortar mixes; brick/block laying; setting out; power tools and equipment; site organisation and safety; simple scaffolding; slinging and signaling.
As 16-19 year old learner, you will attend for three days a week (subject to change).

What qualifications do I need?

This course requires a Diploma level 1 qualification and a completed Functional Skills at E3 or above.
You will be asked to carry out an Initial Assessment to determine the support you require to be successful on this course.

What are my options after I finish the course?

Students can look to progress onto a Level 3 diploma externally or seek a career in the industry, possibly through an apprenticeship.
