Aim of the course

Emphasis is placed on gaining practical experience in some of the tasks likely to be undertaken in each of the two different vocational areas ofPlumbing and Electrical that will allow the learner to specialise in his/her preferred craft. This course is available to 13 – 19-year-old learners on a one to three days a week release from school and will be completed over one year.

What will the course involve?

You will learn a mixture of basic theory and practical skills in all areas and will also study Functional Skills in English and Mathematics (if aged less than 19 years and requested by the school).

Course content?

Students will have the opportunity to experience two different vocational areas: Plumbing and Electrical through a mixture of theory and practical teaching. This is coupled with health and safety training which will make progression onto another construction course easier. This course is a good entry course into the industry gaining basic knowledge in the field.

As this is a City & Guilds 6219 qualification, units from different trades can be inputted into this qualification to gain a multi skills qual.

What qualifications do I need?

This course requires no formal qualifications, but a strong desire to work in the construction industry is essential. Mature students are also welcome. You will be asked to carry out an Initial Assessment to determine the support you require to be successful on this course.

What are my options after I finish the course?

Students can look to progress onto a full-time course, a level 1 diploma, level 2 diploma or an external apprenticeship.
